Zora’s House
The house was owned by the late Dr. Benton, who allowed her to live rent-free because he knew she was destitute, but was a world-renowned author and folklorist. It was a simple house with a stove for cooking, a bed, a bookshelf, and a few chairs. The Bentons took very good care of Zora when she got sick. They would check on her and bring her meals each day. Zora worked on Harod the Great while living in Fort Pierce, and she also wrote for the Chronicle Newspaper. The house is on the National Register of Historic Places.
