President, Zora Neale Hurston FL Education Foundation
The grandson of North Carolina sharecroppers, Marvin Hobson was born into very humble beginnings in Riverhead, NY. Mr. Hobson is a first-generation college student, whose father was a truck driver and mother was a factory worker. Hobson has been an educator since 2002 and has been teaching Developmental English, English Composition, American Literature, and African American Literature at Indian River State College (IRSC) in Fort Pierce, Florida since 2007, where he was introduced to the REAL Zora Neale Hurston.
He has earned a PhD. in English Literature and Criticism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a M.S. in Reading Education, a B.A. in English from the University at Albany - State University of New York (SUNY), and an A.S. in Business Administration from SUNY Farmingdale.
Hobson accepted Christ on July 27, 1997 while in college, and has served in ministry with his wife, Sherise, at COGOP Albany, NY, Sunrise COGOP, Sunrise, FL, and River of Life Fellowship in Fort Pierce, FL. Together, they have a beautiful daughter, Shayla. The Hobsons love to travel and enjoy good home-cooked food!!!!
